Romania's AI Visibility Index

How often AI engines name Romanian brands — measured market by market, with questions that contain no brand name and with the full question set published. A register of measurements, not a national score: no figure in this index crosses a market boundary.

The edition's figures, with their denominators

Edition 2026.08 measures 2 comparable markets and publishes separately 1 pilot edition, which uses a different instrument and enters no aggregation.

267 answers from AI surfaces were analysed: 87 on Electronics and IT (3 Aug 2026) and 180 on Book market (18 Jul 2026 – 31 Jul 2026).

They carry 625 brand mentions (378 on Electronics and IT + 247 on Book market). The pilot edition's 50 mentions are excluded: they are slots the prompt forced, not free mentions.

There are 36 questions in total, 18 + 18 across the 2 markets. None contains a brand name and all are published verbatim: what appears in the answers is the model's choice, not an echo of the question.

The panel holds 5 AI surfaces from 3 providers — ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity, Google Gemini. Google owns 3 of them and 51 of the 87 answers of the Electronics and IT edition (58.6%), so the five surfaces are not five independent opinions.

There is no national per-brand score and no index-wide total of cited domains: the 2 markets' lists overlap and are truncated, and their sum counts nothing.

— 01 · What we measure and what we do not

What exactly does the AI Visibility Index measure?

A single quantity, measured the same way on every market: in how many of the analysed answers a tracked brand is named. The rest of the page is about that quantity's denominators, and about what cannot be deduced from it.

What we measure

Mention frequency. For every tracked brand we publish in how many answers it appears, out of how many were analysed, with a 95% Wilson interval computed at an effective n reduced by the design effect.

Two visibility figures, always together: the plain one, over all answers, and the provider-balanced one, which stops a single provider from voting three times. When the two orderings differ, we say so in the text.

Rank groups, not places. Two brands whose intervals overlap are statistically indistinguishable and share a letter; the raw rank stays in the table, but the conclusions quote the groups.

Market-level metrics — the silence rate, mention density, concentration, each surface's trigger rate. These are the only figures allowed to cross the border between two markets.

The results describe the question set that was measured. Other wordings produce other results, models update continuously, and the figures are dated snapshots rather than permanent states. No position can be bought, improved or deleted.

What we do not measure

We do not measure AI referral traffic — that requires access to every site's analytics, which we neither have nor ask for. We do not measure service quality, safety, price or competence. We do not produce a national per-brand score: the same brand sits at 94.3% in one market and 5.0% in another, and averaging the two would be a methodological choice disguised as a measurement.

If your question is “how many visitors did ChatGPT send me last month”, the answer is not here: it is in Google Analytics, in your server logs, or in an AI traffic dashboard. The Index sees no visitors, no sessions and no conversions — only the text of the answers generated for the panel's questions. A brand can be named often and receive no clicks, or the other way round.

We do not publish a national ranking of cited sources: across the two measured markets the published lists share exactly three domains (emag.ro, libertatea.ro, reddit.com), and both lists are truncated.

— 03 · The silence rate

How often does the AI name nobody at all?

The first question is not who wins, but whether anyone is named at all. A market where the models stay silent in six answers out of ten is not run like one where they stay silent once in eighty-seven — and the difference is invisible to anyone reading a single market.

On Book market, 105 of the 180 analysed answers (58.3%) name none of the 21 tracked brands. On Electronics and IT, 1 of the 87 analysed answers (1.1%) names none of the 13 tracked brands.

The silence rate of each market in the Index: the share of AI answers that name none of the tracked brands, with the 95% Wilson interval drawn under the bar. Every market keeps its own denominator; no brand figure crosses a market border.

— 04 · The markets, compared correctly

What compares between two markets, and what does not?

The only table in the index that holds several markets at once. It contains no brand name and cannot contain one: the row type has no field a brand name would fit into.

Here we compare markets, not brands. A brand has no national score in this index, and it never will.

Market-level metrics, tier A. Every rate is computed against its own market's answers — the "Answers" column is the row's denominator, not a shared total. The silence rate is the share of answers in which no tracked brand appears; top-1 concentration is the share of the market's mentions held by its most-mentioned brand, which we do not name. Wilson 95% interval, corrected for clustering.

— Pilot tier, separate table

The pilot edition does not sit in the same table as tier A and enters no aggregation of the index. A single prompt that demands a top five produces, by construction, five mentions in every answer and no silence: the figures below describe the instrument, not the market.

Market-level metrics, pilot tier. Every rate is computed against its own market's answers — the "Answers" column is the row's denominator. No confidence interval: the mentions are slots the prompt forced, not free observations.

What compares across markets: how often the models stay silent, how many brands fit into one answer, how concentrated the market is, how many distinct domains get cited. What does not: a cross-market brand ranking, a cross-market mention share, a cross-market source ranking, or a sum of distinct domains — the domains overlap, so their sum counts nothing.

The rows carry 3 market editions, each with its own window and denominator; publication dates and measurement windows live on each market's own page.

— 05 · Find your brand

Does your brand appear in the measured AI answers?

Search by name or by domain. A brand present in two markets gets two cards, never one merged row: the same name scores differently in different categories, and the average of the two describes nothing.

Find your brand

The search covers names, alternative names and domains across every published edition. Diacritics make no difference.

Report request

A report on your market — a new run, not figures already published.

We run 18 brand-free questions on 5 AI surfaces, on your market, and send you: (1) the exact questions you do not appear in; (2) who appears in your place on each of them; (3) the domains that put them there. Free, once per domain. We issue at most 10 reports a month. Delivery within 5 working days. We send no newsletter and we do not sell the data.

Not gmail.com or yahoo.com

example.com

for example: office furniture

We use the address only to deliver the report you asked for. The data reaches no brand in the index.

— 06 · The data

Where do you download the data, and how is it cited?

Every figure on the index pages comes from the files below. They are published under a CC BY 4.0 licence: usable, republishable and disputable, provided the source is cited.

How to cite

The licence

All data — tables, CSV and JSON — are licensed CC BY 4.0: usable, commercially included, with attribution.

For a specific figure, cite the edition URL rather than the market one: the market page always shows the current edition and will change, while the edition page stays as published. The deposits above carry their own DOI for each dataset.

— 07 · The methodology, in brief

How is a measurement in the index made?

Below is the protocol of the most recent edition — Electronics and IT, 2026-08. Every edition publishes its full protocol on its own page; the shared rules, the statistics and the dispute procedure live on the methodology page.

This edition's protocol
Locale
ro-ROThe questions were asked in Romanian, with the country set to Romania. The same questions in another language or from another country produce other answers.
Account mode
Logged outNo signed-in account and no conversation history. The protocol is identical across every edition of the Index, so an anonymous run is never compared with one that inherited a history.
Personalisation
NoneNo memory, no saved preferences and no system instruction added by us. An account with a history would have measured the account rather than the engine.
Question wording
No brand namesAll 18 questions are published in full, verbatim. A question that names a brand trivially favours it, so no such question enters the panel. The questions, as CSV
Collection platform
LLM PulseDesign: question panel · 1 run · 90 queries issued
Run location
Not recordedWhere the queries were issued from was never recorded. It is published as an absence rather than assumed to be Romania: geolocation changes what the engines answer, and an assumption would become part of the method.
Exact measurement date
3 August 20261 run · run dates: 3 August 2026 · the measurement window, the index version and the publication date are three different dates and are never merged
Design effect
deff = 2.0measured on this edition's own data — The design effect for clustering of answers within questions was measured on this edition's own dense table (18 questions × 13 brands): mean ICC 0.243, mean cluster size 4.832, giving 1.93 — rounded up to 2.0. Every Wilson interval in this edition is computed at n/deff, that is at 43.5 effective observations, not at 87.
Share per provider
5 surfaces from 3 providersGoogle: 51 of 87 = 58.6% · OpenAI: 18 of 87 = 20.7% · Perplexity: 18 of 87 = 20.7% · 3 of the 5 surfaces belong to one provider (Google), so the panel does not hold 5 independent opinions.

Conflict of interest

Websem sells optimisation services for AI engines, including to brands that appear in this index. All of them are marked in the tables. No position can be bought, improved or removed for money; there is no paid placement, no premium profile and no sponsored logo. An edition's commercial anchor pays for a private run, on its own prompts, which is not published — never for anything connected to the public panel.

Commercial anchor
evoMAG. It paid for a private run, on its own prompts, which is not published. It had no access to the public panel before publication and could change nothing in it.
Websem clients in the table
None. No brand in this edition's table is a Websem client at the date of publication.
evoMAG
The declared commercial anchor of this edition. The measurement grew out of an executive visibility report Websem prepared for evoMAG, and at publication evoMAG is a commercial prospect in direct conversation — which is why it is excluded from the outreach sequences built on this study. No analysed brand provided funding and no brand saw the study before publication. None of the 13 tracked brands is a Websem client at publication: isWebsemClient is false on every row of the table.

Websem received no funding from any analysed brand for the study, and no brand — BookZone included — saw it before publication. BookZone appears in the table with the same counts as any other brand and gets no separate treatment in the derivations.

— 08 · The calendar

When does the next edition arrive, and which market enters next?

The launch edition was published on 8 Aug 2026 and announces no cadence. The entry rule, however, is fixed and published, and the two markets already promised are below.

When the next edition arrives

The launch edition announces no cadence. An index that promises a monthly refresh and fails to deliver it says more about itself than one that admits from the start that it has no calendar yet.

The entry rule, by contrast, is fixed: a new market enters the index when it has a signed anchor. The anchor pays for a private run, on its own prompts, which is not published; the market's public panel then comes out of the same method, with its questions published in full. The anchor does not buy its position and does not see the panel before publication.

  • The Romanian digital marketing agency market, Websem included, at whatever position the data gives it.

Frequently asked questions

What exactly does this index measure?
We measure how often AI surfaces name a tracked brand, across a fully published set of questions that contain no brand name. For each market we report in how many of the analysed answers each brand appears — for instance, across the 87 answers analysed on the electronics and IT market on 3 August 2026, eMAG was mentioned in 82. That is all we measure: mention frequency, in the declared window, on the published questions.
What does the index not measure?
We do not measure AI referral traffic: that would require access to every site's analytics, which we neither have nor ask for. We do not measure service quality, price, safety or competence. We do not measure conversions. And we do not produce a national per-brand score.
Why is there no national score per brand?
Because the same brand gets very different figures in different markets, and any way of combining them is a methodological choice rather than a measurement. eMAG is mentioned in 82 of the electronics edition's 87 answers and in 9 of the book edition's 180. Pooling the two gives 91 of 267 answers; averaging the two rates gives close to 50%; taking the market where it is a core player gives 94.3%. All three are defensible and they differ by some 60 percentage points. We publish none of them.
Why “5 surfaces from 3 providers” rather than “5 engines”?
Because three of the five surfaces are Google's — Gemini, AI Mode and AI Overviews — and they hold 51 of the electronics edition's 87 answers, 58.6% of the sample. “Consensus across five engines” would largely mean Google agreeing with itself. That is why every brand carries two figures: plain visibility, with a confidence interval, and a provider-balanced visibility, without one.
Why do you publish rank groups instead of places?
Because the data does not support as many places as there are brands in the table. Two brands share a group when their confidence intervals overlap. On the book market the top eight brands — from 37 down to 13 mentions out of 180 answers — form a single group: the hierarchy between first and eighth place does not exist in these data. The raw rank stays in the table, but the conclusions quote the groups.
Why are the confidence intervals so wide?
Because answers are not independent: each question produces up to five answers and they correlate with one another. We measured the intraclass correlation on the electronics edition's dense table and got 0.243, which gives a design effect of 1.93, rounded up conservatively to 2.0. Every interval is computed at half the answer count: 43.5 instead of 87, 90 instead of 180. The width is the information, not an excuse — it shows exactly how much of a ranking is noise.
My brand is not in the index. What does that mean?
Usually it means its market has not been measured yet. The index covers two comparable markets and one pilot edition today, so an absence says nothing about a brand's visibility in AI answers. If a brand is in a market's tracked universe and has no mentions, we say so explicitly, with the denominator in view: tracked across all of the edition's answers, with no mention recorded.
Can a brand buy, improve or delete its position?
No. There is no paid placement, premium profile or sponsored logo, and each market's universe is frozen before the run and published. Websem sells AI-engine optimisation services, including to brands in the index; all of them are marked in the tables. An edition's commercial anchor pays for a private run, on its own prompts, unpublished — never for anything connected to the public panel.
How often is the index updated?
The launch edition announces no cadence, because “updated monthly” with two markets would be a promise anyone could check on day one. A new market enters when it has a universe derived from a published rule. If we announce a date and miss it, we publish a delay note on the methodology page; we do not go quiet.
How do I cite the index, and how are the data licensed?
All data — tables, CSV and JSON — are licensed CC BY 4.0: usable, commercially included, with attribution. Cite the edition URL rather than the market URL: the market page always shows the current edition and will change, while the edition page stays as published. Recommended form: Romania's AI Visibility Index, Websem, the edition in question, the edition URL, the date accessed.
